COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland (2-9, 0-4 B1G) will be back in action this weekend for a set of Big Ten dual matches vs. Purdue (7-2, 2-1 B1G) and #4 Ohio State (7-0, 3-0 B1G).
The Terps will first host Purdue at the XFINITY Center Pavilion on Friday evening at 7 p.m., as the team looks for its first Big Ten head-to-head win of the season. The Terps are 2-1 all-time vs. Purdue, dropping a 32-6 team decision to the Boilermakers last season when the teams met in West Lafayette.
Maryland will then make the short trip to Olney, Md. on Sunday for its dual match with Ohio State, with the teams slated to wrestle at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. Good Counsel is the alma mater of Olympic Gold Medalist and current Buckeye heavyweight Kyle Snyder, who is returning to wrestle in his home state for just the second time in his collegiate career. The Buckeyes hold a 2-0 edge in the all-time series, winning 31-9 when the teams met last in 2015 in College Park.
Friday's match will be streamed on BTN Plus. Sunday's dual will be broadcast on Facebook Live via facebook.com/ohiostateuniversitywrestling.
A Look at the BOILERMAKERS
- Purdue has put together a quality season in dual match competition, with a 7-2 record and 2-1 mark in the Big Ten. Purdue's two losses came at the hands of #15 Stanford and #3 Iowa, while the Boilermakers have won their last three including B1G wins over Northwestern (20-16) and Indiana (19-12).
- Despite not having any wrestlers tabbed in the InterMat Wrestling top-20 rankings, Purdue sports a solid lineup up and down, including three starters with at least 20 wins in Ben Thorton (125), Alex Griffin (157) and Tyler Kral (285).
- The Boilermakers will make the trip north to Piscataway, N.J. to take on #11 Rutgers at noon next on Sunday.

A LOOK AT THE BUCKEYES
- The Terps will take on one of the powerhouse programs in college wrestling on Sunday when they meet fourth-ranked Ohio State for the second time since joining the Big Ten.
- No wrestler shines brighter throughout the star-studded lineup then heavyweight Kyle Snyder, who became the youngest Olympic Wrestling Champion in United States history when he won the gold medal at the Rio Games. Snyder was one of two Buckeyes to win an NCAA individual title last season, which included sophomore Myles Martin (184) who defeated Bo Nickal for the 174-pound crown.
- In addition to #1 Snyder and #10 Martin, Ohio State has wrestlers ranked in five other weight classes. Nathan Tomasello (133) and Bo Jordan (174) are both #1 in the country.
- Ohio State finished third overall at the 2016 NCAA Championships, after winning the program's first-ever NCAA team title in 2015.

CRAY, WHITESELL CLAIM OPEN TOURNAMENT CROWNS
- Freshman Brandon Cray continues to show positive signs in his first collegiate season, as the two-time New Jersey High School State Champion won the F&M open title at 125 pounds on January 7.
- Cray has now placed in three tournaments during his redshirt season for Maryland, and is 16-6 on the year.
- Redshirt sophomore Adam Whitesell turned in an impressive day at the Shorty Hitchcock Open on January 14, winning five matches en route to the 149-pound title.
- Four of his wins were bonus point victories, as the Silver Spring, Md. native improves to 20-10 on the year with a team-best eight pins.
midlands rewind
- Redshirt sophomore Alfred Bannister (149) led the Terps at the 54th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships December 29-30 with an eighth place finish in the 149-pound bracket.
- Bannister totaled five wins at Midlands, which included a two bonus point victories and a pair of wins in tiebreaker.
- Maryland was 17th overall in the team standings, with the team accounting for nine bonus point victories during the two-day tourney.
- Redshirt senior Billy Rappo surprised some folks in the early rounds of the Midlands Championships, knocking off two seeded opponents in his season debut at 133 pounds.
- Rappo's opening bout was one of the most exciting of the day in front of a large crowd at Welsh-Ryan Arena, coming back to defeat sixth-seeded Tyson Dippery (Rutgers). After going down 4-2, Rappo scrambled from the top position in the second period to put Dippery in a cradle and eventually on his back for an upset pin (4:17).
- The Holland, Pa. native then went to work on 11th-seeded Scott Delvecchio, clinching an 8-3 decision. Rappo finished the tournament 2-2 overall.
