Terps Take Fifth at Central District Invitational

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The Maryland women's golf team finished fifth in a competitive field Tuesday at the Central District Invitational.

The Terps posted four top-30 finishes in the three-round, two-day tournament.

Xiaolin Tian led the Terps, tying for seventh overall with a +5 (70-77-74).

Alexandra Papell also placed in the top 20, tying for 18th individually with a +8 (72-75-77).

Panitta Yusabai and Ludovica Farina took 27th and 29th, respectively. Yusabai shot a +11 (76-77-74) while Farina finished +12 (75-79-74).

"Xiaolin came back strong from a rough week in Puerto Rico and finished tied for 7th," head coach Diana Cantu said. "We opened the event with a strong round. The wind picked up in the afternoon and we struggled to keep our groove.

"We had it going for 13 holes today but dropped some shots coming in. I'm proud of the team, we are getting tougher and better each event. The fairways were tight and we played fast greens. It was great preparation for the rest of the season."

Ludovica Scandroglio finished tied for 47th with a +20 (79-80-77).
