The Cheerleading Head Coach would provide leadership and operation oversight for 55-60 student cheerleaders, 5 mascots, 2 assistant coaches (football/basketball primary assistant cheer coach and Olympic Sport/volleyball secondary assistant cheer coach), 1 mascot coach, 2 gymnastics coaches, 6 volunteer cheer staff, and for approximately 165+ events to include but not limited to: practices, away collegiate summer training camp; home and away football games; home men's basketball games; home women's basketball games; post season bowl games and basketball tournaments; National Collegiate Cheerleading Championship; appearances and performances; cheer fundraisers, clinics and competitions; select Olympic sporting events and end of the year banquet.
The Cheerleading Head Coach would conduct tryouts and team selection process; conduct practices teaching cheerleading and presentation skills, proper collegiate stunt and gymnastics technique and train students with the skills to be nationally competitive. Attend 2-5 practices depending on the week; provide counsel to students, adhere to the cheerleading policies and guidelines and collaboratively handle disciplinary issues with the head coach. Work with Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing and other Athletic Department staff to achieve operational goals.
Support Primary Assistant Coach as necessary in recruiting efforts including campus and gym visits and assist with the planning of our annual recruiting event, clinic, campus tour and football game visit. Travel to collegiate cheerleading summer camp, select away football games, bowl games, select men's/women's basketball tournaments, and the UCA Collegiate National Championship and B1G annual coaches meeting.
Manage the master schedule of 165+ practices and events from end of July through the end of May for the students and staff; ensuring every student and staff member is where they need to be. Book facilities for all above mentioned events. Be the main point of contact with Sports Medicine Staff for student health and welfare concerns. Manage the state budget and foundation that has a circulation of at least $50,000 annually. Provide oversight of scholarship distribution; manage travel related administrative needs for respective travel-travel letters, ground transportation, itinerary, cash advance, per diem allocation, expense reports. Plan and implement fundraising efforts to generate funds for collegiate cheer camp and national championship. Plan/implement team banquet and end of the year recognition. Manage content for external website, graphically and administratively produce marketing materials like team calendar and social advertisements, oversee all social channels – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required. A minimum of 3 years of NCAA Division I cheerleading coaching experience required. Highly organized and detailed orientated, Professional written and oral communication skills with ability to communicate with all levels within the organization from student population to executive level management. Ability to troubleshoot situations without delay and act accordingly. Must be available to work flexible hours nights and weekends. Must have ability to travel weekends and 5-7 week days a year. Strong ability to command attention from and manage large groups with no assistance. Ability efficiently managed groups in chaotic and often unpredictable circumstances. AACCA certification required.
Salary: Start date of this part time position is August 7, 2017 with a salary range of $19,000 - $28,000, based on previous experience. No Health benefits.
