BALTIMORE, Md. – The Maryland field hockey team took some time away from College Park Friday afternoon to visit Under Armour's Headquarters in Baltimore. Student-athletes, coaches and team staff enjoyed a tour of both the Lighthouse campus and global headquarters, and heard from Vice President of Culture Amy Larkin.
“This was a fantastic opportunity for our team,” said head coach Missy Meharg. “We were fortunate to get the chance to learn from Amy. Her message of discipline, selflessness and pride really resonated with our values as a program. Having our team work out in Under Armour's state of the art weight room and turf right next to the Baltimore Harbor was amazing -- with the highlight being able to do it alongside 2010 National Champion and team captain Alicia Morawski.”
The Terps learned about Under Armour's state of the art manufacturing processes at the Lighthouse, getting the chance to tour the facility and receive body scans – which scans data to create virtual models and shape analysis of athletes.
The team then took the short trip over to Under Armour's main campus, where UA officials introduced them to “The Wall” – a massive digital screen with daily updates on everything Under Armour. The group then got a workout in down at the facility's gym and turf field, before enjoying a dinner together to end the day.
“The facilities were incredible, it was so cool to have that opportunity,” said senior defender Carrie Hanks. “Amy talked a lot about pride and discipline, and that has been one of our biggest themes this year. Hearing it from a fellow Terp and Under Armour rep was amazing, and we're definitely going to continue to stay on that message.”
Maryland will open its season Sunday at 2:00 pm vs. St, Joseph's.
