Executive Director of the M Club/Director of Alumni Engagement

As a member of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics development staff, the Executive Director of the M Club/Director of Alumni Engagement is responsible for the planning and implementation of strategies, programs and projects that increase alumni athlete participation and engagement. The Executive Director of the M Club/Director of Alumni Engagement will serve as staff for the M Club Board, assisting the volunteer organization for alumni athletes in the implementation and management of M Club programs and policies. The Executive Director of the M Club/Director of Alumni Engagement will develop and implement a comprehensive engagement strategy for alumni athletes that will include an increase in M Club membership.

This position will be responsible for the recruitment and support of volunteers, identification and engagement of alumni athletes for future volunteer leadership and philanthropic support of the Athletic Department; management and execution of events; supervision of development associate; effective alumni communications and quality alumni data; and coordination of specific alumni relations strategies and programs into the overarching strategies and priorities for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the University of Maryland.

Education (include licenses, certification, etc.):

  • Bachelor's degree required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience working in alumni relations, membership organizations, fund raising, marketing, program development or relationship management is required.
  • Experience in managing a budget and events are required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • An appreciation for the history, achievements and aspirations of Maryland Athletics and the M Club. 
  • Proven ability to build excellent relationships, recruit and manage volunteers, and work with committees and boards.
  • Ability to plan and manage events that are implemented within budget and accomplish the identified strategic goals for the events.=
  • Effective use of data analytics in overall planning and marketing/membership strategies.
  • Excellent public speaking, communication, presentation, planning, organizational, leadership, team building and interpersonal skills. 
  • Possess an outstanding customer service and work ethic, along with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents, multi-task, think strategically, and set and achieve both long and short-term goals.
  • Strong understanding of alumni membership organizations with emphasis on advancing the institution through alumni engagement. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with volunteers, university leadership, and other key internal and external constituents. 
  • Computer literacy, preferably with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, and work evenings and weekends. 

Preferences:

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Computer literacy in Quickbooks, Paciolan and Advance
  • Experience with alumni reunion events is preferred.
  • Experience in a NCAA FBS level athletics or alumni program is preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
