COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Nine standout former student-athletes were recognized for their excellence in their respective sports and enshrined among the University of Maryland's greatest Friday evening at the Samuel Riggs Alumni Center.

Men's basketball player Adrian Branch, women's volleyball player Eden Kroeger Burks, gymnast Gillian Cote Cook, men's soccer player Jason Garey, football player LaMont Jordan, fencing athlete Howard Labow, women's lacrosse and field hockey player Karen Trudel Martellucci, women's lacrosse head coach and student-athlete Cathy Nelson Reese and men's lacrosse player Joe Walters were officially inducted into the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame surrounded by friends, family, teammates, coaches and supporters.

The M Club will also presented honorary M Club Awards to Wanda Alexander, Mike Freiman, Don Pearman and Don Scheeler for their longtime dedication to Maryland athletics. PepsiCo Chief Executive Officer and former Maryland student-athlete Albert Carey was honored at the event as Distinguished Citizen of the Year.

The voice of the Maryland Sports Radio Network Johnny Holiday served as the master of ceremonies, while attendees were treated to speeches from all nine inductees. 

Founded in 1982 by the M Club and developed as a collaborative effort with the Athletics Department, the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame pays tribute to those superior Terrapin athletes, coaches and administrators who have made major contributions to the honor and fame of the University of Maryland, and have continued to demonstrate the positive values learned through competing in intercollegiate sports. Induction into the Hall of Fame represents the highest athletic honor the University can bestow.
