Box Score COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The second-ranked Maryland field hockey team (20-2) pushed past No. 17 Albany (16-5) Friday in a 2-1 win in the NCAA Field Hockey First Round Friday afternoon at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
With the win, Maryland advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the 28
th time in school history and 26
th under head coach
Missy Meharg. The Terps also reached the 20-win mark for the first time since 2013 and the 11
th time in school history.
Albany struck first with a score by Viol Von der Mulen in the seventh minute off the rebound on a penalty corner. The Great Danes led through halftime.
Maryland came out of the break with a strong attack, scoring twice in the first six minutes of the period.
Sophomore
Bodil Keus slammed in the tying goal with a score off a penalty corner just 5:13 into the second half. Freshman
Bibi Donraadt and sophomore
Hannah Bond assisted on the play.
Ninety-one seconds later, Donraadt got behind the Albany keeper and finished off a pass from sophomore
Brooke DeBerdine for the game-winner. Maryland led 2-1 with 28:14 left to play.
The teams stayed locked in a tight battle until the final horn and after, as the Great Danes were awarded two penalty corners with no time on the clock.
The Terps took 12 shots to the Great Danes' seven and
Sarah Holliday made two saves.
Maryland will play No. 5 Connecticut (19-3) Sunday at 1 p.m. in College Park

Head coach
Missy Meharg is in her 31st season as head coach of the Terrapins. She's led them to a record of 563-137-9 (.800), seven NCAA titles, 25 conference titles and 17 Final Fours. She has been named NFHCA National Coach of the Year an unprecedented nine times in her career.
Meharg was honored by the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame this week with the John F. Steadman Lifetime Acheivement Award.
