COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The coaching staff of the Big Ten champion Maryland field hockey team earned Spiideo/NFHCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year honors Thursday from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
The Terrapins finished the season 22-3 and were runners-up in the NCAA Division I National Championship. The Terps won of the Big Ten Regular-Season Championship and were outright winners of the Big Ten Tournament Championship.
Their roster touts Elite 90 award winner,
Hannah Bond, 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year,
Linnea Gonzales, three 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Americans and six 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Mid-Atlantic All-Region honorees.
"It is an honor to work alongside and learn from
Marvin Bam and two Terrapin field hockey greats in
Katie Bam and
Kasey Tapman," head coach
Missy Meharg said. "This brings a high-level love of the game and a knowledge of hockey that is unmatched."
The 2018 season was Meharg's 31
st, the second season for both Katie and
Marvin Bam and the first for volunteer assistant
Kasey Tapman.
This is the second straight year Meharg and Katie and
Marvin Bam were honored as the Regional Staff of the Year. Prior to 2017, the award recognized the Regional Coach of the Year, which Meharg won 16 times.
Senior
Linnea Gonzales, sophomore
Bodil Keus and junior
Nike Lorenz were recognized as three of 32 players in the country to earn All-America honors Tuesday. Gonzales and Keus were named to the First Team and Lorenz was named to the Second Team.
