McCoy Announces 2018 Class

Maryland wrestling head coach Kerry McCoy announced Maryland’s 2018 recruiting class, which will bring 12 new additions to the Terrapin roster this fall.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland wrestling head coach Kerry McCoy announced Maryland's 2018 recruiting class, which will bring 12 new additions to the Terrapin roster this fall.

The list features seven state champions from five states. It also showcases seven wrestlers from the state of Maryland.

The class joins a Maryland roster that will feature three 2018 Big Ten placers and NCAA Qualifiers, including 2018 NCAA All-American Youssif Hemida. 

"We are really excited about the incoming class," McCoy said. "They work hard and are dedicated to being the best they can be. They're committed to helping our program get better. They will be great additions to our family."

Orion Anderson -- Schuylerville High School, N.Y. (133 pounds)

Finished high school with a record of 185-8...was a three-time NY state champion and a four-time state finalist...twice was named the New York Most Outstanding Wrestler...2017 NHSCA Junior National finalist.



Jarod Kosman -- Fitch High School, CT (125 pounds)

20th ranked wrestler in the Intermat 113-pound high school rankings...2018 NHSCA Senior National Champion...2017 NHSCA Junior All-American after finishing in 5thplace...2018 Connecticut state champion (three-time place-winner)...2018 New England champion...Cadet Freestyle All-American after a fourth-place finish...four-time Class L finalist (2x champion)...four-time ECC champion...Connecticut Dave Schultz Excellence Award Recipient.



Lucas Cordio -- Nashoba Regional High School, MA (157 pounds)

Three-time Massachusetts state champion and a three-time New England place-winner (finished 2nd, 3rd, 1st)...three-time NHSCA All-American after placing sixth, seventh and eighth...four-time Massachusetts sectional champion...finished high school with a record of 173-20...Massachusetts Dave Schultz Excellence Award recipient.


King Sandoval -- St. Mary's Ryken High School, MD (125 pounds)

Four-time National Prep All-American (finishes: 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, 5th)...2018 National Prep Most Falls/Least Time award winner...three-time Maryland state champion and a four-time finalist...two-time Beast of the East placer (5th and 8th)...three-time Washington Post All-Met First Team selection...finished fourth at the 2018 UWW Greco Junior Nationals...2nd at the 2018 UWW Cadet Greco Nationals...2nd in freestyle and 3rd in Greco at the 2017 UWW Cadet Pan Am Championships...3rd at 2016 USAW Cadet Greco Nationals...high school record of 233-29 with 144 career pins. 



Jake Nielson -- Urbana High School, MD (157/165 pounds)

Two-time Maryland state and regional champion...three-time county champion...high school record of 160-20.



Parker Robinson -- McDonogh School, MD (285 pounds)

National Prep All-American...Maryland state champion and three-time state placer...MIAA Champion...Maryland state freestyle champion.



Paul Evan Purkey -- Damascus High School, MD (184 pounds)

Two-time Maryland state champion...two-time Washington Post All-Met team member...two-time regional and county champion...finished high school career with over 160 wins. 



Jordan Wallace -- New Rochelle High School, N.Y. (174/184 pounds)

Two-time state placer (6th, 3rd)...two-time Eastern States placer (8th, 2nd)...Section I champion and four-time finisher (4th, 2nd, 2nd, 1st)...New Rochelle High School all-time wins leader with 171 victories. 



John Luke Iglesias -- Walt Whitman High School, MD (197/285 pounds)

Two-time regional and county champion...state runner-up...high school career record of 88-17. 


Tahron Sheffield -- St. Benedict's Prep, N.J. / Keystone College (141 pounds)

Third-most wins at Keystone College during 2017-18 season...three-time prep national qualifier...three-time All-Prep team...4th place at New Jersey state freestyle tournament...97 career wins in high school. 


Cody Swigart -- Urbana High School, MD (133 pounds)

Two-time Maryland state placer (3rd, 5th)...two-time regional champion...county champion...two-time high school team captain...high school career record of 125-42 with 66 pins.



Decklan Fischer -- Snow Hill High School, MD (133 pounds)
