Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Terps Top West Virginia Monday Night

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Senior Amar Sejdic found the back of the net for the first time this season to lead the Maryland men's soccer team (1-2-2, 0-0 B1G), past West Virginia (2-3-0), 1-0,  on Monday.

Sejdic floated a ball past the Mountaineer keeper off a well-placed cross from defender Chase Gasper. The Terrapins were then able to defend for the final 15 minutes and close out their first victory of the season.

"I'm extremely happy for the team tonight," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "I'm very proud of them. They withstood a very good West Virginia team in the second half. We put pressure on them and had really good looks in the second half along with some hard runs in the box. We played the hardest four games of anybody in the country at this point in time. We played some overtime games and in some really tough weather conditions. We were on very short rest for this game and I couldn't be happier with the commitment our guys came out with."

It was a competitive match from start to finish between the Terps and Mountaineers, with the two sides playing evenly through a scoreless first half. Maryland tallied six shots in the opening 45 minutes, including a strong effort from Paul Bin that was saved in the final minutes.

Sejdic was in the mix to start the second half, quickly taking two shots in the opening 15 minutes. With both teams finding their footing in the offensive end, Sejdic then broke the deadlock to give Maryland the late advantage.

It was another strong effort from Maryland goalie Dayne St. Clair, who finished the night with six saves. Maryland posted 10 shots, which is the third time the Terrapins reached the double-digit mark this season.

Maryland will now open conference play, traveling to Northwestern for a Friday evening showdown. The match is set to begin at 8 p.m., and will be streamed on BTN Plus.
