Terps Draw Indiana in Double OT Battle

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland out shot Indiana 21-15, but couldn't find the back of the net as the Terps settled for a scoreless draw Thursday night. Both sides generated a handful of close chances, but none found the back of the net as UMD moves to 7-6-4 and 3-4-1 in the Big Ten. Indiana now stands at 7-6-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the B1G.

On a windy and chilly evening in College Park, Maryland had to withstand some early pressure from the Hoosiers as the visitors racked up six shots in the first 17 minutes of play. Goalkeeper Erin Seppi would make two of her game-high six saves during that span, before Maryland turned the tides to generate some pressure of its own.

Jlon Flippens had the Terps' best first half chance in the 25th minute, but her header off a corner kick went right into the arms of Indiana's keeper. The Terps would finish with a 9-7 edge in shots at the end of the half as the teams headed to the break scoreless.

Center back Malikae Dayes continued to anchor Maryland's backline into the second half and throughout the night, constantly running down Indiana forwards to thwart scoring opportunities.

Her defensive foundation continued to give UMD possession, as the Terps tried to crack the Hoosiers' tight defensive formation that featured five backline players.

After regulation went scoreless, the Terps had to survive once last barrage from Indiana in the first OT period, as Seppi came off her line to punch out three corners ad make a diving save.

The Terps would manage four shots in OT before the horn sounded and both teams earned a point in the Big Ten standings with the tie.

UMD will be back in action Sunday to host Purdue in their regular season home finale. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 pm.
