Terps Drop Season Finale at Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Anthony McFarland Jr. ran for 134 yards including a 63-yard touchdown in the third quarter, but the Terps fell to Michigan State 19-16 in the season finale on Saturday.

Down 3-0 early in the game, Josh Jackson hit Dontay Demus Jr. in stride for a 44-yard touchdown to put Maryland up 7-3. Demus' sixth touchdown reception of the season was part of a seven reception, 96 yard game. Michigan State would score the final 10 points of the half to take a 13-7 lead at the break.

Maryland outscored Michigan State 9-0 in the third quarter to go up 16-13 off a Joseph Petrino 33-yard field goal and McFarland's 63-yard touchdown. The sophomore running back would add another 43-yard run on the following drive but a fumble halted that drive.

The Spartans tied the game up with 9:30 left in the fourth on a 32-yard field goal make. After the Terps went three and out with the game tied, Michigan State put together a 12 play 74-yard drive to take a 19-16 lead.

Making his first career start, Fa'Najae Gotay led the Terps with 15 tackles (seven solo), the most by any Maryland player this season. Javon Leake posted 20 kick return yards, passing Stefon Diggs ('14) to move to fifth all-time on the career kick return yard list with 1,487.
