RICHMOND, Va. -- Zoe Kulkarni and
Amber Policare won a match at the third doubles position, but the Maryland women's tennis team (1-3, 0-0 B1G) fell to defending A-10 Champion VCU, 4-0, on Saturday.
The two teamed up to take home a 6-3 victory over VCU's Marina Bakkari and Noumea Witmus for their second doubles win of the season.
"VCU is a good team and they played well today," head coach Daria Panova said. "Despite the loss, we took steps forward today and we continue making progress. The doubles point was close and we were in a good position in singles play until we had a hard time closing out the first sets. I'm pleased with our effort and I'm looking forward to good week of practice before our opportunities against Old Dominion and Delaware next weekend."
A pair of singles matches were in their third sets when they went unfinished. After dropping her first set, senior
Millie Stretton responded to win her second, 7-5, to force a third that was tied at two when the match ended. At third singles,
Katsiaryna Yemelyanenka won a tight first set, 7-5, before dropping a second and having her match end unfinished.
