NEW YORK -- Maryland junior sprinter Kameron Jones placed third in the 600m race at the Toyota USA Track & Field Indoor Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in New York, N.Y. Sunday.
His time in the 600m goes down as the 11th best time ever run in the world in the 600m, and sets a new school record, which he already held.
Jones ran a blistering 1:15.32, obliterating the Maryland-record 1:16.76 which he set last year at the Spire NCAA D-1 Indoor Track & Field Classic, and finishing behind a new world-record 1:13.77 set by professional runner Donavan Brazier.
Jones, who owns three University of Maryland records, showed that he can go toe-to-toe with the professionals at the USATF indoor nationals. In the prelims, Jones bested his school record running a 1:16.59, then shaved off another second in the finals.
In the outdoor season, expect Jones to keep his hot streak going in the 4x400m relay and the 400m dash.
