LAST TIME OUT
  • Maryland holds a 10-8 record after going 1-2 at the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. last weekend. Maryland dropped its matchups against George Washington (13-3) and North Carolina (8-8) but defeated UNC Greensboro 17-9 in eight innings after an explosive top of the eighth in which the team scored 10 runs, its most runs scored in an inning since scoring 11 in the seventh inning of a 21-8 win vs. Indiana on April 5, 2015.
  • Maryland's game against Florida Atlantic (9-9) was called a no contest in the bottom of the fifth with two outs remaining due to weather conditions. Maryland was leading 11-2 at the time behind three hits and 2 RBI from freshman sensation Taylor Okada, four RBI and a HR from junior 3B Anna Kufta, and a solid showing from senior pitcher Sami Main.
  • Taylor Okada continued to pace the Terps offensively, going 7-13 (.538) in the batter's box, scoring four runs, knocking in four more, and hitting her first career home run.
OKADA AMONG THE NATION'S ELITE AS A FRESHMAN
  • Affectionately nicknamed "Lil Tay," freshman second baseman Taylor Okada is the smallest player on the team, but has played much bigger than her size suggests.
  • Okada currently ranks fifth in the country with 30 hits, only trailing Florida State's Cali Harrod (32), North Texas' Katie Clark (32) Florida's Amanda Lorenz (31), and Georgia Tech's Breanna Roper (31). Her .448 season batting average ranks second the Big Ten and her three triples on the season is also the highest mark in the conference. Her 17 runs scored on the season leads the team and ranks third in the league.
  • Okada currently holds a nine game hitting and scoring streak, and has 10 multi-hit games on the season. She has been held hitless in only three games this season, and has struck out just once.
  • Okada is fielding .988 on the season which is the best mark among the Terps' infield group. Head Coach Julie Wright followed Okada's high school and travel ball career closely, and said she has only ever seen her commit two errors in the infield.
KEEPING TRACK OF THE TERPS
  • Senior pitcher Sydney Golden and junior outfielder Amanda Brashear reached big career milestones this past weekend. Golden notched her 200th career strikeout and Brashear got her 100th career hit, both coming in Saturday's matchup vs. old ACC rival North Carolina.
  • Bailey Boyd reached 50 career hits and 50 career runs two weekends ago at the Amy S. Harrison Classic, where she went 9-16 (.563), scoring five runs and batting in three more.
  • Anna Kufta notched her 75th career hit, her 50th career RBI, and her 10th career home run Feb. 8-10 at the Trojan Classic in Troy, Ala.
  • As a team, Maryland ranks second in batting average in the Big Ten (.316), only trailing #15/17 Illinois (.334)
  • Anna Kufta ranks second in the conference in RBI with 24 so far on the season. Kufta has already surpassed her 2018 season total (23) and is nearing her 2017 season total (26). Her current mark of 24 also ranks 15th nationally.
  • Sydney Golden currently ranks fourth in the Big Ten in innings pitched (60.1) and sixth in wins (7).
  • Freshman catcher Gracie Voulgaris has caught five runners stealing this season, currently the top mark in the Big Ten.
