Kufta Ties for Team Lead in Homers vs. Penn State

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Junior Anna Kufta hit her sixth home run of the season in game one of the doubleheader - tying for the team lead with sophomore Sammie Stefan - but the Terps (19-23, 3-11 B1G) dropped both games of the Saturday doubleheader to Penn State (22-24, 6-10 B1G).

In game one of the doubleheader, Anna Kufta hit a solo homer to give the Terps their only run of the game. In addition to tying for the team-lead in home runs, Kufta reached 40 RBIs on the season which ranks top-five in the Big Ten and is the highest mark among the Terps. Kufta went 2-3 in the first game, her second hit being a single in the sixth inning.

Sydney Golden got the start in the circle and suffered her fourth straight loss. She allowed six runs - but zero earned runs - on seven hits, while also striking out two. Sami Main pitched four innings in relief, allowing six runs - four earned - on four hits while striking out one.

In game two of the doubleheader, Maryland got behind early, allowing four runs in the first inning. Redshirt freshman Victoria Galvan got the nod in the circle, but only pitched two innings before being relieved by Kiana Carr, and after, Sami Main

The Terps' offense had a little more success offensively in game two. JoJo McRae and Regan Kerr had multi-hit games and the Terps forced a pitching change just two innings in, but runners left on base would be the deciding factor as Maryland had multiple chances to cut the deficit.

The Terps will play the final game of the three-game series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
