The University of Maryland, College Park is looking for applicants for a Sports Nutrition Fellow that would work with Football and Olympic Sports. This position would actively participate as a member of the Maryland Sports Nutrition Staff and assist the full-time Sports Dietitians with the Football Sports Nutrition program and also oversee two-three Olympic Sports teams as well as assist in management of all fueling stations, nutrition education, in-season fueling plans, menu writing, cooking classes, etc. Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition (or health related field), Registered Dietitian licensure (or RD eligible) and at least 40 hours per week time commitment. A desire to pursue a career in sports nutrition is highly recommended. This position will include a stipend provided throughout the year. You will gain experience in a Division I Athletics program and be mentored by two Sports Dietitians. Appointment will begin mid-June 2019 and will complete May 2020. Duties Include:
- Assist in development and continuous improvement of nutrition education materials and resources and write monthly newsletter for staff, students, and coaches.
- Assist in management of education, counseling, and fueling for Maryland Football and potential football travel.
- Manage the education, counseling, and fueling for at least two Olympic Sports teams.
- Oversee all aspects of nutrition for VTH weight room/training room/etc. including oversight of fueling station, appropriately field nutrition-related questions, and assist undergraduate volunteers.
- Assist the sports dietitians in the development of taste testing demos and cooking classes done in collaboration with Dining Services.
- Give team talks to a variety of sports depending on team needs and sport season
- Examine and translate scientific research related to nutrition, athletic performance and dietary supplements.
- Perform various administrative duties.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the sports nutrition staff.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Nutrition (or health related field).
- Registered Dietitian (or RD eligible for May 2019)
- 40 hours per week minimum time commitment. (include mornings/afternoon/evenings/weekends)
Preferred Requirements:
- One year previous sports nutrition experience.
Skills Required:
- Ability to be flexible and adjust to schedule changes
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with all members of the Performance Staff and other athletic department personnel
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Work, Prezi, and Piktochart to assist in creation of education materials and presentations
- Knowledge and understanding of NCAA and Big 10 bylaws
