Poarch, Dayes Secure Senior Day Win Over Minnesota

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Alyssa Poarch and Mikayla Dayes both slotted goals as the Maryland Terrapins (5-3-2) defeated the Minnesota Golden Gophers (1-7-2) 2-0 on Sunday, September 22. Jlon Flippens continued her hot streak on the offensive end, setting up both goals to bring her assist total to four on the season in just four games played.

Maryland honored its eight-player senior class in a pregame ceremony before the match, as Andi Wenck, Erin Seppi, Darby Moore, Jlon Flippens, Brynn Drury, Kate Swetz, Niven Hegeman and Julia New were recognized for their contributions to the program.

Dayes came out the gate looking for a goal against the Gophers. Her goal quickly came six minutes into the game when Flippens took a free kick, and Dayes was there to land it into the net off of her right foot.

The Terps defense played strong against the Gophers allowing just six first half shots. The Terps matched their possession at the half taking seven total shots. Senior Andi Wenck in her first career start and was called into action early for a save to keep Minnesota scoreless.

Leading 1-0 at the half, Maryland came out the gate strong offensively once again looking to increase their lead. A bomb from Flippens in the 46th minute was sent right to Poarch as she got past the defense and slotted one into the left side of the goal.

Maryland continued to play strong defensively when Erin Seppi made two great saves within the 70th minute, both shots coming from Minnesota's Katie Duong.

UMD had a few more chances to increase their lead, but ultimately settled for the 2-0 victory.

Next up, the Terps travel to New Jersey to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on September 28, at 7:00 p.m.
