#22 Syracuse (1-0, 0-0) at Maryland (1-0, 0-0)
Sept. 7, 2019 || College Park, Md. || 12:02 p.m. EDT

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland looks to open the season 2-0 as it welcomes No. 21 Syracuse to College Park. The Terps and Orange will kickoff at noon at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium, with the game airing on ESPN.

THIS WEEKEND'S STORYLINES

1. Head coach Michael Locksley began his first full season at the helm of the Maryland football program in style last week with a 79-0 win over Howard. Born and raised in the DMV, Locksley returns home with over 20 years of coaching experience, including 10 years with the Terps. The winner of the 2018 Broyles Award, given to the nation's top assistant coach, Locksley has spent the previous three years at Alabama, where he won the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship.

2. Junior transfer quarterback Josh Jackson had an incredible Terrapin debut against Howard, throwing for 245 yards and four touchdowns, tied for most touchdowns ever thrown in a Maryland debut (Mark Manges vs. Villanova, 1975). Jackson's four touchdowns, all in the first half, are the most by a Terrapin quarterback in the first half since at least 1977. Jackson is also the first Maryland quarterback to throw four touchdowns in a game since Caleb Rowe on Sept. 19, 2015 vs. South Florida.

3. The Terps totaled eight sacks in last week's win, tied with Syracuse for the second-most in a game this weekend and the most in a single-game by a Maryland team since October 5, 2002 against West Virginia. Seven different Terps posted a sack led by a game-high 1.5 from linebacker Keandre Jones

4. With last week's win, the Terps have now won 10 consecutive season-openers dating back to 2010, the fifth longest streak among power-five schools in the country, trailing only Ohio State (20), Alabama (18), Utah (12) and Michigan State (11). In the 10-game streak, Maryland has totaled at least 34 points in seven straight games. Maryland and Alabama are the only two teams that have beaten at least two ranked foes over their season-opener streaks, with Maryland beating No. 23 Texas in 2017 & 2018.

5. Maryland has forced a turnover in 13 straight contests, the fifth-longest streak in the FBS, trailing only Indiana (19), Houston (18), Mississippi State (17) and this week's opponent: Syracuse (15). The Terps, who notched a takeaway in every game last season continued the streak when defensive lineman Tyler Baylor recovered a Howard fumble last week. In its 13-game streak, Maryland has won the turnover battle 11 times.

6. The Terps scored 79 points in their week one win over Howard, the second-most ever by a Maryland team and the fifth-most in the FBS over the past six seasons. The 79 points were only one-point shy of the Maryland record, set in 1927 against Washington College.

7. Dating back to the beginning of the 2016 season, Maryland has won 83.3 percent of its games in August and September, a 10-2 record. The Terps have started the season 2-0 in each of the past three seasons.
