Terps Fall in Season Opener at Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Maryland football team fell in its season opener to Northwestern 43-3 on Saturday night.

Chance Campbell recorded a career-best 15 tackles (10 solo), including 1.5 for loss and Dontay Demus Jr. caught a pass for the 16th-straight game, finishing with 41 yards on four receptions for Maryland.

In his first game back after missing the 2019 season due to an ACL injury, Jeshaun Jones tallied five receptions for 41 yards. Nick DeGennaro caught the first three balls of his career on the Terps last drive of the night, accumulating 42 yards. 

The Terps scored on their first drive of the game off a  Joseph Petrino 33-yard field goal after a 12 play, 56-yard drive that saw Taulia Tagovailoa go 6-for-7 for 36 yards.

Maryland will open up its home slate next Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. for Homecoming as the Terps host No. 21 Minnesota at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium.
