FAIRFAX, Va. -- Senior
Kali Hartshorn tied her career-high with seven points (four goals, three assists), while junior
Catie May also notched four goals to lead the No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team to a season opening 19-6 win at George Mason.
"A lot of jitters when we first got out there, which is to be expected," said head coach
Cathy Reese. "But I'm proud of how we pulled it together in the first media timeout and told everyone to take a deep breath and get out there and play. From that point on we played with a little more confidence and trust in our teammates. Really good start to our season."
The May sisters: Catie and Libby, who made her Maryland debut today, scored the first four goals of the contest for Maryland, who took a 4-2 lead six minutes into the contest. The Terps then finished the half with five more straight goals, featuring a 3-0 run from Hartshorn, junior
Brooke Robbins' first career goal and freshman
Kate Sites' first career assist.
Sophomore
Maddie McSally started in the cage today and was terrific, tallying five saves to only two goals allowed, a .714 save percentage. Freshman
Emily Sterling took over in the second half and notched the first two saves of her career.
Senior
Brindi Griffin scored her first three goals of the year in the second half to lead the way as freshman
Hannah Leubecker tallied her first career score and a trio of sophomores:

On the defensive end, freshman
Emma Schettig for the Terps, picking up four groundballs and causing two turnovers. Senior Megan Doherty, juniors

This marks Maryland's 14th straight season opening win, all under
