Terps Run Rule Samford 11-3 in Final Day of the Panther Invitational

MIAMI, Fla. -- Maryland earned its fourth win of the Panther Invitational via run rule, downing Samford 11-3 in five innings. A total of nine players scored at least one run in the contest, a season-high. The Terps return to College Park winning the Panther Invitational with a 4-1 record, improving to 12-11 on the season. 

Terps rout Samford, 11-3:
  • Maryland recorded a season-high 11 runs and 10 RBIs.
  • Freshman Trinity Schlotterbeck improved to 6-5 on the season.
  • Senior Anna Kufta got the Terps started with a sacrifice fly that recorded an RBI as Taylor Okada scored the first run of the day.
  • Maryland kept the energy going in the second inning as they went on to score three runs on three hits.
  • Sophomore Regan Kerr stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and doubled to left center. She recorded three RBIs when redshirt freshman Katie Dustin, freshman Campbell Kline and senior Amanda Brashear all scored a run, increasing the lead to 4-2 by the top of the second.
  • The Terps scored four runs on three hits in the top of the fourth.
  • With the bases loaded, Okada got walked to first, bringing redshirt junior Micaela Abbatine in to take an 5-3 lead over the Bulldogs.
  • Kufta then stepped up to the plate and singled to the shortstop, scoring Junior Jojo McRae for the sixth run.
  • Junior Shelby Younkin finished the inning with a two RBI double down the left field line bringing Kufta and Okada in to up the  lead to 8-3 at the top of the fourth.
  • Kline scored the first run in the top of the fifth on a wild pitch.
  • Kufta recorded her third RBI when she reached first on an error by Samford's second baseman and McRae scored the 10th run.
  • Kufta scored the final run due to a sacrifice fly by freshman Taylor Liguori.
  • The game concluded when Samford didn't score in the bottom of the fifth.

On The Weekend:
  • Kerr notched a team-high eight hits.
  • Kerr, Kufta and Kline all had an overall average of .500 on the weekend.
  • Schlotterbeck went 3-0 inside the circle with an overall era of 1.25, giving up just 11 hits and three runs.
