Maryland Falls 5-2 Against No. 9 Rutgers

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland (4-7-4, 0-5-2) battled but ultimately fell to No. 9 Rutgers (12-2-0, 7-0-0), 5-2. The Scarlet Knights came out of the gates hot with Maryland Goalkeeper Liz Brucia having to make four great saves in the first eight minutes of the game. Rutgers ultimately found the net twice within a minute, immediately putting the Terps in a hole.

A great pass by Mikayla Dayes found Loren Sefcik who broke through the Rutgers backline, briefly making it a one-score game, but Rutgers ended the game on a 3-1 scoring run, with Maryland's second goal coming from Catherine DeRosa.

Team-Highs
  • Dayes, DeRosa, and Hope Lewandoski all tied for the team lead with two shots apiece.
  • Adalee Broadbent was the lone Terp to play all 90 minutes
  • Madeline Smith made a team-high six saves in the second half after replacing Brucia.

Up Next
  • Maryland will take on the Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday Oct. 17 at 1pm at Ludwig Field in the final home game of the season.
