LIU’s Late Goal Ends Maryland’s Season With 1-0 Win

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Assane Ben Fall scored on a strike with 1:17 left in regulation to lift Long Island University to a shocking 1-0 win in the NCAA Tournament First Round, eliminating Maryland from the postseason. Ben Fall ripped the ball from the top left corner of the box for the only goal of the game. 

The Terps finished the year at 12-4-2. 

The Sharks (12-4-4) will take on No. 10 seed Saint Louis on Sunday in St. Louis, Mo., at 3 p.m., ET, in the NCAA Tournament Second Round. 

Maryland put on the pressure in the final 10 minutes of regulation with several dangerous opportunities, but were unable to capitalize. 

The teams played to a scoreless first half as Maryland controlled the possession and outshot the Sharks, 5-0. 

Demetri Skoumbakis made five saves for the Sharks.
