COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland lost its Big Ten opener to Northwestern, 67-61, on Sunday afternoon at XFINITY Center. The game was the first with Interim Head Coach
Danny Manning at the helm of the Terrapins (5-4, 0-1 Big Ten) after he was named to the post on Friday.
Hakim Hart scored a team-high 18 points, hitting four 3-pointers and grabbing seven rebounds.
In addition to Hart,
Fatts Russell (11 points) and
Eric Ayala (10 points) also scored in double figures.
Donta Scott pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
Manning's Debut As Interim Head Coach
- On Friday, Maryland Athletics announced it mutually parted ways with head coach Mark Turgeon, who led the program since 2011-12.
- Assistant coach Danny Manning, one of the most accomplished basketball figures of all time, was tabbed by Director of Athletics Damon Evans to serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
Double Figure Update
- Hart scored in double figures for the third time this season and 11th time in his career.
- Ayala has scored in double-figures in seven games this season and now has 58 in his career.
- Russell hit double-figures for the seventh time this season and 83rd time in his career.
