Terps Season Ends at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State scored four consecutive goals to secure the come-from-behind 4-2 victory over Maryland in the opening game of Big Ten Regional Weekend Thursday afternoon.

The Buckeyes advance to Sunday's game against Rutgers or Michigan State to play for a bid to the 2021 Big Ten Tournament.

Maryland was the aggressor early, pressing the Buckeyes to earn a corner kick in the opening minutes before breaking through in the ninth minute.

With Ohio State attempting to clear its end off a goal kick, Mikayla Dayes pressed up to dispossess the Buckeye defender and blast a left footed shot just inside the 18-yard box.

Her near side attempt caught OSU's goalkeeper off guard, finding the back of the net to give the Terps a quick 1-0 lead.

The Buckeyes were able to draw even in the 42nd minute, getting a goal from Peyton McNamara to tie the game before halftime.

Maryland generated a flurry of chances early in the second half, put couldn't finish as the score remained 1-1 in the opening minutes. The Buckeyes capitalized on a pair of outside shots, scoring in the 56th and 62nd minute to take a 3-1 lead, before getting its fourth in the 80th minute.

Alyssa Poarch added a late goal for the Terps, scoring in the 82nd after the Buckeyes turned it over in their end.

Maryland will set its sights on the fall 2021 season, which is scheduled to begin this coming August.
