COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland (4-3-3, 0-1-1) and Nebraska (4-5-1, 0-1-1) traded opportunities for 110 minutes but had to settle for a 0-0 draw.
It was a game of two different styles as Nebraska was looking to push the pace as Maryland looked to slow it down and be more methodical. It was the Terps who got the first two great chances as
Kori Locksley leaked behind the defense twice but couldn't get either of her shots onto the net. The Cornhuskers came right back and down and a header of there's beat Maryland goalie
Liz Brucia but it hit the crossbar and fell aside, keeping the game scoreless. The Cornhusker outshot the Terps 5-2 in the first half but still entered halftime scoreless.
Maryland found life in the second half as a pass by Locksley sprung Mikaya Dayes down the right side of the box. Dayes crossed the ball back over the middle to a wide-open
Loren Sefcik but her shot sailed just above the net. The Terps began to create more chances as the second half went on but shots by
Alyssa Poarch, Sefcik and Locksley couldn't break the tie. Back-to-back saves by Smith late in the second half kept Nebraska off the board as both teams continued to grind all the way into overtime.
With both teams exhausted after a grueling 90-minute affair, the overtime period became a war of attrition as neither team could get any great opportunities. Nebraska's lone chance came midway through the second overtime but
Madeline Smith stood strong on her line and swallowed the ball up, not allowing a rebound chance. The last chance of the match belonged to the Terps as a chip shot by
Mikayla Dayes sent the Cornhuskers goalie leaping into the air but it couldn't fall behind her for the game-winner. Maryland settled for their third draw of the season and their first in conference play.
