COLLEGE PARK, MD – Indiana used a pair of 13-0 runs to help the Hoosiers to a 68-55 victory over Maryland on Saturday afternoon inside XFINITY Center. The Terps trailed by as many as 18 in the second half.
Hakim Hart led Maryland (11-10, 3-7 Big Ten) with 15 points as the Terps' two-game win streak came to an end.
Qudus Wahab scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Fatts Russell added 12 and
Eric Ayala chipped in with six.
Indiana (16-5, 7-4) was led by the duo of Race Thompson (18 points and 12 rebounds) and Trayce Jackson-Davis (17 points and nine rebounds) as they combined for 35 points and 21 rebounds. The Hoosiers have won four of their last five games.
Breaking Down The Action
- Back-to-back threes from Ayala and Scott opened the scoring for Maryland, as the Terps scored the game's first eight points. Indiana answered reeling off 13 consecutive points to take a five-point lead (13-8) with 12:45 left in the first half. The Terps would respond with a run of its own, taking an 18-17 lead after an Ayala three with 8:39 left. The teams would go back and forth throughout the half with the lead changing hands nine times before the Hoosiers would lead 33-26 at halftime.
- Indiana's three-pointer to begin the second half capped the Hoosiers' second 13-0 of the game as Maryland trailed 36-26 a minute into the second half. Indiana began to pull away in the second minutes, going up by 17 (61-44) with six minutes left.
Double-Figure Update
- Hart (15 points) scored in double figures for the 11th time this season and 19th time in his career.
- Russell (12 points) hit double-figures for the 16th time this season and 92nd time in his career.
- Wahab (12 points) scored in double figures for the ninth time as a Terp and 31st time in his career. It was his third straight game with double-digit points.
Ayala Moving Up The Charts
- Ayala's six points gives him 1325 for his career, good for 27th all-time in program history. Ayala trails Tony Massenburg's 1354 which was scored between 1985 and 1990.
- The senior also knocked down two three-pointers, moving him into fourth all-time, tying Mike Jones's 203 makes.
- Ayala now only trails his former backcourt mate, Anthony Cowan Jr (206), by three makes.
