COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Thanks to a Joshua Bolma goal in the 61st minute, the No. 7 Terps (7-1-4, 3-0-3) fought back to a 2-2 tie with Wisconsin (4-5-3, 1-3-1) in a Friday evening match that celebrated Sasho Cirovski's 60th birthday and his 30 years as Maryland's head coach.
Wisconsin carried a 1-0 lead into halftime, but Maryland and Stefan Copetti equalized just a few minutes into the second half. After the Badgers found the back of the net again, Bolma connected off a deflected cross to knot the match again.
The Terps kept up the offensive pressure and continued to dominate play for the remainder of the game, but could not find the go-ahead goal. They finished with an 11-4 shots on goal advantage.Â
With the draw, the Terps brought their unbeaten run to nine matches, the longest stretch without a loss since their 10-0-3 start to the 2017 season. Maryland also remains atop the Big Ten standings with 12 points.Â
Sasho's Take
"Obviously, a very disappointing result on a night where I thought we might have been the sharpest we've been all year on the attack. We created more chances to score tonight than I think in any game this year, besides maybe the Virginia game. I thought our guys put in great effort. I thought we were unlucky a little bit. I have to credit Wisconsin on making the most of their chances  but when you hold a team to literally one shot on goal in the second half and that goes in the goal, that's tough to take. We deserve better than our performance than we got, but that's the harsh reality of soccer."Â
Player's Perspectives
"We had a lot of chances," Bolma said. "Sometimes you just get unlucky. We were for sure the better attacking side and we should've gotten the better result today. We just got a little unlucky and next time time we just need to take our chances."
"That was probably one of our better performances in recent games, so obviously a little gutted to come out with the tie," Copetti said. "But, we have a quick turnaround with High Point on Monday, so we're looking forward to that game and getting a W."
