LEESBURG, FL – Maryland rallied to tie the game late, but Stetson answered to beat the Terps 8-3 on Friday evening at THE Spring Games at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex.
Jaeda McFarland went 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of singles along with a stolen base.
Courtney Wyche had a clutch two-run, pinch-hit triple to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning.
The Hatters (5-2) scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to come away with the win. Maryland dropped to 2-4 overall.
Breaking Down The Action
- The Hatters took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a 2-run single by Haley Fox.
- Regan Kerr scored the Terps' first run of the game as she came home on a groundout by Michaela Jones in the fourth inning, making it 2-1 Stetson.
- Stetson took a 3-1 lead as the Hatters scored a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth to match the Terps.
- Coming on as a pinch hitter, Courtney Wyche tripled home two runs in the top of the sixth inning scoring Jones and Campbell Kline to tie the game at 3-3.
- Stetson quickly answered with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to regain the lead, 8-3. Juls Schumaker hit a home run to put the Hatters back in front before four more runs scored on a pair of singles, a fielders choice and an error.
