COLLEGE PARK, MD - The No. 2 ranked Maryland men's lacrosse team will open its 2022 campaign on Saturday, February 5 when the Terps host High Point at Maryland Stadium for a noon faceoff.

UMD is 92-3-1 all-time in season openers, and have won 28 straight dating back to the 1994 season. The game will be streamed on Big Ten Plus.

HIGH POINT STORYLINES

2021 Rewind
  • Maryland put together a historic season in 2021, winning 15 consecutive games before falling in a thrilling National Championship game to Virginia, 17-16 on Memorial Day.
  • Maryland raced through its Big Ten schedule, winning the regular season outright with a perfect 10-0 record before capping things off with a Big Ten Tournament title on May 8 with a 12-10 win over Johns Hopkins.
  • Jared Bernhardt became just the second-ever Tewaaraton winner in program history, putting together an unprecedented offensive season as he set new Maryland single-season records for goals (71) and points (99) while setting new career records for a Terp in goals (202) and points (290). Additionally, Bernhardt set new Maryland records for goals in a single NCAA Tournament (18) and points in a single tournament (24).
  • Maryland ranked No. 1 in the country last season in points per game (25.69), scoring margin (5.81) and shot percentage (39%). The 2021 Maryland team sits atop the program record books for points in a season (411), goals in a season (255) and assists in a season (156), toppling marks that had stood at UMD since the 1970s.

  • Donning the esteemed No. 1 jersey this season is fifth year senior Logan Wisnauskas. The two-time USILA All-American begins his final collegiate season tied for third all-time in career points at UMD (237) while ranking fifth in career goals (144). 
  • The Sykesville, Md. native has tallied a point in all 57 games of collegiate career and has the most eight-point games in school history (5).
  • He was named a preseason All-American by both the USILA and Inside Lacrosse, and will be an early favorite for the 2022 Tewaaraton Award.

  • Maryland has won 28 consecutive season-opening games dating back to the 1994 season.
  • The Terps are 92-3-1 all-time in season opening games dating back to the program's first varsity season in 1924. Last year, Maryland dominated Michigan 20-9 at home in its first of 15 wins to open the year.
  • Maryland has won 32 consecutive games when allowing an opponent under 10 goals dating back to the 2017 National Championship season.
  • The Terps' defense held opponents to under 10 goals in seven different games last season, including a master class performance against Duke in the NCAA Semifinals allowing just five goals.
  • Maryland has been a tough out under head coach John Tillman when allowing under 10 goals, posting a 97-11 record under Tillman since 2011.

TILLMAN AT THE HELM
  • John Tillman enters the 2022 season with a 162-59 all-time record in 14 seasons as a Division I coach, with his .733 winning percentage ranking second amongst all active coaches.
  • Tillman has amassed a 142-40 (.780) record in 11 seasons at Maryland, 24 NCAA Tournament wins, eight Final Four appearances and the 2017 National Championship.

SERIES HISTORY & SEASON OPENERS
  • Maryland is 4-0 all-time against High Point, last taking down the Panthers 23-12 in the 2020 season opener.
  • The 23 goals in the game was the most in a single game for the Terrapins since 2013, with Logan Wisnauskas leading the way with six goals. Bubba Fairman added a career-high five assists in the win.
  • This will be the third time Maryland has opened its season against the Panthers (2017, 2020).
