Maryland Wins Season-Opening Big Ten Series At Penn State, 6-4

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA -- Maryland captured the first Big Ten series it played this season with a 6-4 victory at Penn State on Saturday afternoon at a snowy and cold State College. The Terps evened their overall record at 15-15 and are now 2-1 in conference play. Penn State is 18-13 and 1-2 in the Big Ten. 

Mackense Greico went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Megan Mikami went 3-for-4 with an RBI. The Terps' other RBIs came from Haley Ellefson and Michaela Jones

In the circle, Trinity Schlotterbeck came on in relief of Ellefson to finish the game with 3.2 innings of scoreless and one-hit ball. She also struck out five. 

Breaking Down The Action
• Liana Jones hit a two-run home run in the second inning to give the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead. 
• Maryland answered with four runs in the top of the third inning as Mackense Greico and Haley Ellefson each doubled in runs. Then the Terps took a 3-2 lead on a double steal as Ellefson stole home as Trinity Schlotterbeck took second base. Then Michaela Jones drove in Schlotterbeck with a single to left. 
• Penn State came right back with two runs to tie the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Michelle Leone and a run that scored on a passed ball. 
• The Terps came back to retake the lead with a run in the top of the fourth as Kiley Goff scored on a throwing error on a Megan Mikami to right, making it 5-4. Mikami came home on a Greico single to left making it 6-4.
• Schlotterbeck and the Terps' defense kept the Nittany Lions scoreless through the remainder of the game, holding Penn State to just one hit​​​​​​
