COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Logan Wisnauskas was drafted first overall and six total Terrapins were selected in the 2022 Premier Lacrosse League on Tuesday night.
Maryland now holds the record for alumni drafted into the PLL surpassing Syracuse with 70 total hardshell draftees. The Terps also take the record for most players drafted in a single year after Notre Dame had four selected last year.
The draft began with the Chrome Lacrosse Club selecting Wisnauskas with the top overall pick. Wisnauskas, Maryland's all-time leader in points, joins Assistant Coach Jesse Bernhardt and former Terps stars Colin Heacock and Nick Grill on the squad.
Wisnauskas becomes the eighth Terrapin to ever be selected first in a professional sports draft joining John Lucas (NBA - 1976), Joe Smith (NBA - 1995), Leo Cullen (MLS - 1998), Maurice Edu (MLS - 2007), Ben Bender (MLS - 2022), Joe Walters (MLL - 2006), Jonathan Donville (NLL - 2021).
In the last week Wisnauskas has earned 2022 Big Ten Tournament MVP, the 2022 Big Ten Medal of Honor, and now has been selected first overall. At the end of the regular season he was named 2022 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year.
Roman Puglise was the other first round pick, being selected by the Whipsnakes seventh overall. He joins the ten former Terrapins already on the Whisnakes roster. Puglise was a first-team All-Big Ten selection and was the 2021 Big Ten Medal of Honor recipient.
Two Terps went in the first round with four in the first two rounds.
The next Terp off the board was Bubba Fairman, selected 11th overall by the Cannons. Fairman sits 36th-overall in program history in points and was recently named 2022 Big Ten Sportsmanship Honoree. He was a 2021 USILA All-American honorable mention at attak before moving to the midfield for his final season.
Donville was selected by the Chaos with the final pick of the second round. The top pick in the 2021 NLL Draft, Donville was named 2022 All-Big Ten Second Team in his first season as a Terp.
Keegan Khan was selected in the middle of the third round and will join Puglise on the Whipsnakes. Khan was also 2022 All-Big Ten Second Team.
With the penultimate pick in the third round, the Waterdogs selected SSDM Jake Higgins. Higgins has 23 GB and four CT this season.
The top-seeded Maryland men's lacrosse team faces the winner of Manhattan/Vermont on Sunday May 15 at Noon. Maryland is coming off its second consecutive sweep of the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles.
