Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 3 Terps Advance To Big Ten Championship, Dominate Hopkins In 14-6 Win

PISCATAWAY, NJ — No. 1 seed Maryland women's lacrosse advanced to the Big Ten Tournament championship for the sixth straight season with a dominant 14-6 victory over No. 4 seed Johns Hopkins at SHI Stadium. Aurora Cordingley totaled seven points and Hannah Leubecker netted four goals in the victory as the Terrapins improved to 16-1 on the season.

"Proud of our team for coming away with the win," said head coach Cathy Reese. "It was a tough night out there with the cold, pouring rain but we found a way to come together and execute. Huge congrats to Aurora for hitting her 100th point as a Terp, that's an awesome accomplishment for her. We knew we were going to get a fight from Hopkins. We were able to clean things up as the game went on and find some good looks to cage and get some stops. We're excited to advance and play on Sunday."

"I want to give a huge congratulations to Janine Tucker on a great career in leading the Hopkins program. It's been fun to compete against her over the years. She's been a great leader and supporter for our sport across the board. We wish her well in the next chapter of her life."

Maryland awaits the winner of Friday evening's contest between No. 2 seed Northwestern and No. 3 seed Rutgers, which it will face on Sunday at noon in Piscataway. That game will be also be nationally televised on the Big Ten Network.

Her five assists are the second-most ever in a Big Ten Tournament game and are the most by a Terp.

Leubecker and Grace Griffin each recorded hat tricks, with Leubecker's four-goal day leading the way for the Terps' attack. Libby May, Shannon Smith and Cordingley also had multi-goal games.

Maryland's defense kept Hopkins off the board throughout the game, led by goalkeeper Emily Sterling's five saves.

Abby Bosco, Eloise Clevenger, Cordingley and Sterling all snagged three ground balls. Bosco also won six draws, and Shannon Smith and Shaylan Ahearn each won five, a category Maryland won 17-7.
