Maryland Drops Doubleheader Against Ohio State

COLLEGE PARK, MD - Maryland softball dropped its doubleheader to Ohio State to finish out the regular season. The Terps are now 28-22 overall and 14-8 heading into the Big Ten Tournament. 

GAME 1: Ohio State 6, Maryland 0
Trinity Schlotterbeck pitched in the circle for the Terps, allowing four runs on nine hits through five innings. Maryland had hits from leadoff hitter Megan Mikami (2), Campbell Kline, and Schlotterbeck.

Ohio State got on the board in the first frame after a double brought two Buckeyes in. The Buckeyes brought in two more across the third and fifth innings, then put up a home run and scored on an error in the top of the seventh.  

GAME 2: Ohio State 8, Maryland 5

Junior pitcher Courtney Wyche started in the circle, pitching 6.2 innings. Wyche allowed seven hits and eight runs, striking out one.

After a walk from pinch hitter Schlotterbeck and a hit from Megan Mikami, Terps got on the board first with a Taylor Liguori RBI to put them up 1-0 in the bottom of the third.Ohio State answered in the following frame with three runs to take over the lead. In the top of the seventh, the Buckeyes put up another five runs on three hits to make things 8-1.

In the final frame, a fielder's choice on Okada and a single from Taylor Liguori brought Goff and Greico in for the Terps to come within five. A double from Amelia Lech brought another two Terps in to make things 8-5.

Maryland had hits from Mikami (2), Kiley Goff (3), Mackense Greico, and Taylor Okada.


Up Next 
The Terps will head to East Lansing to compete in the Big Ten Tournament May 11-14, hosted by Michigan State.
