COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Legendary Maryland field hockey head coach
Missy Meharg has signed a contract extension, Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics
Damon Evans announced Wednesday.
Meharg, who is entering her 35th season as head coach at Maryland, has led her Terrapin squads to a record of 605-156-9 with a winning percentage of over 79 percent, 19 Final Fours, 12 NCAA title game appearances, seven NCAA Championships. The nine-time National Coach of the Year has also led the Terrapins to 26 conference titles between their time in the ACC and the Big Ten.

This past fall, Meharg became the third Division I head coach to reach the 600-win mark. Her 605 wins are the most-ever by any Maryland coach in history across all sports.
Meharg was inducted into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the University of Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. She was inducted into the DC Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.
Meharg has coached 56 All-Americans, 19 Conference Player of the Year recipients and six of her former student-athletes were named National Player of the Year. Eight of Meharg's Terps went on to play in the Olympics for their respective countries. Meharg served as a commentator for NBC's field hockey coverage for the London Olympics in 2012.
Off the pitch, Meharg's student-athletes have earned numerous academic honors, including being named a National Academic Squad for their team GPA multiple All-Big Ten Academic honors. Over 100 Terrapins have earned NFHCA National Academic Squad honors individually.
Meharg came to the University of Maryland as a graduate student and served as an assistant coach to Sue Tyler from 1985-87. Together, they helped the Terrapins top North Carolina for the program's first-ever NCAA title in 1987.
