No. 4 Maryland Defeats No. 14 Boston College 3-1 in B1G/ACC Cup Opener

NEWTON, MA -- No. 4 Maryland bested No. 14 Boston College 3-1 on Friday evening in its first of two B1G/ACC Cup Games, avenging a 3-2 loss to the Eagles last season.

The Terps got goals from Hope Rose, Leah Crouse and Bibi Donraadt, and Margot Lawn recorded a pair of assists.

With the win, the Terps moved to 3-0 on the season.

Breaking Down The Action
  • Each team recorded a goal apiece in the first 3:12 of the game. Rose scored Maryland's goal off the assist from Lawn on the breakaway.
  • Towards the end of the first quarter, the Terps got a couple of shots off when the Eagles were down a player because of a yellow card, but Boston College blocked both shots.
  • Maryland regained the lead in the 21st minute as Leah Crouse scored her first goal as a Terp. Lawn got her second assist of the day on the play, centering the pass for Crouse to tip in.
  • Rose had an opportunity on a breakaway to add her second goal of the game, but the shot sailed just right of the goal.
  • The Terps outshot the Eagles 9-4 in the first half.
  • Maryland kept the pressure on the Boston College defense in the third quarter, but Eagle goalkeeper Carine Van Wiechen made several impressive saves.
  • The continued pressure paid off for the Terps in the fourth quarter as Donraadt rushed past the defense and scored off a nice find from Rose, adding an insurance goal for Maryland.
