Jenny Rizzo Announced As Field Hockey Assistant Coach

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- University of Maryland women's field hockey coach Missy Meharg announced the addition of Jenny Rizzo to the coaching staff as an assistant coach and goalkeeper coordinator. Rizzo was a member of the U.S. National Team that qualified for the Olympic Games earlier this year. She is training for the Olympic team that will compete in Paris this summer. The U.S. National Team will announce its roster later this year.

"We are thrilled and honored to bring Jenny Rizzo into our leadership group," said Meharg. "As an aspiring young coach and an active USA goalkeeper in Olympic preparation, our goalies and defensive units will thrive under her leadership."

Rizzo served as a volunteer assistant with Davidson during the 2019 season and then served as an assistant coach at Davidson and Lafayette College helping with the development and growth of the goalkeepers and defensive units.

Rizzo was a standout goalkeeper for Penn State, starting in 79 games. She tallied more than 5,400 minutes in the cage and posted a .749 career saves percentage. She helped the Nittany Lions to three NCAA Tournament bids (2016-18), the 2016 Big Ten Tournament title and was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team in 2017 and 2018. In addition to her on field success, Rizzo was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a two-time NFHCA National All-Academic Team member. She graduated from Penn State with a degree in Biobehavioral Health with a minor in Global Health Studies

"I am beyond excited to join the Terp field hockey staff," said Rizzo. "The Maryland Field Hockey Program has a history of excellence and I'm looking forward to working alongside a world class staff. Using my current playing experience and tactical understanding of the game, I hope to aid especially in our goalkeeper development."

The Hershey, Pennsylvania native, played on the U19 and U21 U.S. National teams and the U.S. National Development Team, then played with the Beeston Hockey Club in England in 2019 and 2020, while earning her masters in Public Health from Nottingham Trent.
