Northwestern Steals Game One Against Maryland In 10 Innings, 6-5

EVANSTON, IL – Maryland baseball lost game one of its series against Northwestern, 6-5, in 10 innings at Rocky Miller Park on Friday.

Northwestern (11-19, 1-6 B1G) secured a walk-off win as Tony Livermore singled down the infield line with bases loaded to drive in the game-winning run. The Wildcats couldn't generate much offense until late outside of two solo home runs hit by Trent Liolis and Jackson Freeman. However, it tied the game in the bottom of the eighth and held Maryland (22-13, 4-6 B1G) scoreless for the remaining five innings. Garrett Shearer was awarded the win.

Jacob Orr keyed a three-run fourth inning for the Terps with a bases-clearing double with bases loaded. He recorded a team-high three RBIs.

Kenny Lippman earned the start on the mound and pitched six innings while stringing out five batters and allowing just five hits and three runs. Logan Berrier went 2.2 innings and struck out three batters.
  Swope's Message To The Team
"The first five or six weeks a lot of things went our way and we did well," head coach Matt Swope said. "I just told them that it's going to come from within, it's going to come from this team. Nobody is going to feel bad for you. The bounces may not be going our away, so you just have to do whatever you can to overcome it."
