Terps Lose Series Finale To Illini, 4-0

Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland softball conceded its series against Illinois with a 4-0 loss in a rubber match at Maryland Softball Stadium on Sunday. 

The Terps (17-19, 4-5 B1G) trailed by four runs after the Illini (15-20, 2-6 B1G) hit two two-run home runs in the second and third innings. Maryland had opportunities with runners on base but couldn't capitalize. Pitchers Lauren Wiles and Tori McQueen combined for a shutout. 

Courtney Wyche provided a strong outing in the circle. She pitched her 13th complete game of the season, which is a season-best for the fifth-year pitcher. Wyche struck out 10 batters and allowed just five hits. 

Six Terps recorded hits in the contest. Jaeda McFarland hit the only extra-base hit for the Terps, a double in the first inning.

  • The Terps loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning but couldn't capitalize.
  • The Illini got on the board first in the top of the second inning with a two-run home run by Adisyn Caryl. 
  • Illinois hit another two-run home run in the third inning. Stevie Meade hit the long ball and the Illini took a 4-0 advantage. 
  • The Terps were afforded another opportunity with bases loaded in the fourth inning but once again couldn't capitalize with two outs. 
  • Maryland had one final chance in the seventh but couldn't manufacture any runs with one runner on base.

  • Wyche pitched the 46th complete game of her career, which is fifth all-time. Next on the list is Tisha Killian (1996-98) with 48 complete games.
