Terps Wrap Up Regular Season With Loss To Penn State

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland baseball lost to Penn State, 19-7, in game two of its Senior Day doubleheader, which was also its regular season finale at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium on Friday. 

Maryland (34-22, 10-14 B1G) scored first and led 4-2 in the bottom of the third inning, but Penn State (26-23, 12-12 B1G) outscored the Terps 17-3 the rest of the way to secure the win. 

Brayden Martin hit his first career home run in the game. He put the Terps on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a solo shot to left field. The freshman finished the game going 2-for-4 with two runs. 

Eddie Hacopian and Ben Nardi also hit home runs for Maryland. Hacopian hit two, recording his second multi-home run game of the season. The first was a three-run homer and the second was a solo shot. He went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs and has nine home runs on the year. 
  Nardi hit his second home run as a Terp. It was a solo shot to center field to break Penn State's scoring run. Kevin Keister drove in the other run for Maryland. He finished the game going 2-for-5. 
With the loss, Maryland did not qualify for the Big Ten Tournament. 


Breaking Down The Action 
  • Brayden Martin kicked off the bottom of the first with a leadoff solo home run to left center, giving Maryland an early 1-0 lead. 
  • Kevin Michaels belted a two-run shot to left field to give Penn State a 2-1 lead in the third. 
  • Maryland responded in the bottom frame of the third, led by Eddie Hacopian's three-run blast that put the Terps ahead by two runs. 
  • Penn State added four runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-4 lead.
  • The Nittany Lions continued to extend their lead, scoring four runs in the seventh to lead 10-4.
  • Ben Nardi broke through for Maryland, hitting a solo home run to center field, cutting the lead down to five runs in the seventh.
  • Penn State scored a run on an RBI single in the eighth inning. 
  • Penn State continued to control the game, adding eight runs in the final inning, highlighted by two three-run home runs by Kyle Hannon and Adam Cecere.
  • Eddie Hacopian continued his hot day, launching his second homer, and Kevin Keister hit an RBI single through the right side to make the final score 19-7.

  • Eddie Hacopian recorded three hits, giving him 83 on the season. That ranks tied for the 10th most in Maryland single-season history. He's tied with Nick Lorusso (2022), Anthony Buffone (2002) and Brandon Lowe (2015). 
  • Kevin Keister finished the regular season with 118 career walks, ranking third in program history. 
  • Keister also finished with 28 home runs in his career. He's tied for 11th in program history with Craig Munroe (1999-00). 
  • Chris Hacopian finished the regular season with 15 home runs, tied for the second-most by a freshman in Maryland history. He's tied with Maxwell Costes (2019).
  • Sam Hojnar finished the regular season tied for the 11th most home runs in Maryland single-season history. He has 16 home runs and is tied with Maxwell Costes (2022), Brian Jarosinski (2004), Craig Munroe (1999), Kevin Haverbusch (1997) and Ron Hartman (1996).
