Despite a pouring rain and an 11 PM start time, Maryland's
Rose Coats crushed the Terps' 10,000 meter record at the Raleigh Relays on Friday night hosted at the Paul Derr Track & Field Complex.
Coats turned in a time of 33:44.57 to finish third overall. The performance is the 26th fastest this season and the sixth best time in the Big Ten.
Her time bested the previous mark set by Jennifer Van Horn in 1991 (34:09.26) and is Coats' fourth school record between cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.
The junior currently holds the Maryland records for the 6K in cross country (19:45.4), the indoor 3,000 meters (9:18.23), and the indoor 5,000 meters (15:54.62).
