Track Teams Fare Well At James Madison Invitational

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Sophomore Tracy Ojeniyi (Sewell, N.J.) finished second in the shot put (47-0 ľ) and sophomore Punnie Chittchang (Mount Airy, Md.) placed third in the long jump (18-5) to lead the Maryland's track teams at the James Madison Invitational on Saturday.

The meet marked the final competition before the post-season begins next weekend with the Eastern Colleges Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships for the women's team, and the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur American Athletes (IC4A) Championships for the men's team.

Also faring well for the women's team were freshmen Angie Rosamilia (Parsippany, N.J.) and Labelle Hillgrove (Passaic, N.J.). Rosamilia placed fourth in the discus with a mark of 136-11 and Hillgrove took sixth in the same event with a toss of 125-8. In addition, senior Cathy Porter (Millersville, Md.) and sophomore Ruth Kura (Potomac, Md.) finished fifth (159-11) and seventh (151-6), respectively, in the hammer throw. Also, freshman Rashida Twiggs (Blue Bell, Pa.) placed fifth in the 100 meters with a mark of 12.25, and sophomore Amber Stanley (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 17-8.

On the men's side, sophomore Andrew Long (Columbia, Md.) finished fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 161-11, and sophomore Dave Benaderet (Baltimore, Md.) placed 10th in the 400 with a time of 48.95.

The ECAC Championships and IC4A Championships will both be held in Princeton, N.J. on May 18-21. Thirteen members of the women's team have qualified for ECAC competition, and eight members of the men's team have qualified for IC4A competition.
