Juniors Thema Napier (Columbia, Md.) and Ruth Kura (North Potomac, Md.) each won two events at the Maryland Invitational on Saturday to lead the Terrapin women's track team to first place at the Kehoe Track and Field Facility.
Napier took first in the 100 hurdles and the 400 hurdles with times of 14.37 and 1:01.75, respectively. Kura won the hammer throw with a toss of 164-2 ˝ and the discus with a throw of 134-2 ˝. The Terps finished the competition with a total of 273 team points. Navy finished second, followed by Northeastern, Morgan State, American, Maryland-Baltimore County, and the British Royal Navy.
Also faring well for the Terps were senior Vanessa Jones (Olney, Md), who won the high jump with a mark of 5-8 ˝, and sophomore Tia Burley (Baltimore, Md.), who finished first in the 200 with a time of 24.65 and third in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.75. In addition, the Terps finished first in the 4x100 relay and the 4x400 relay with times of 46.58 and 3:46.58.
In men's action, senior Cedrick Rogers (Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished first in the long jump with a leap of 23-6 ľ to lead the Terps to a third-place finish. Rhode Island finished first, followed by Northeastern, Maryland, Maryland-Baltimore County, and Morgan State.
Also faring well for the Terps were juniors Dontae Bugg (Newport News, Va.), Phillip Barrett (Upper Marlboro, Md.), and Dave Benaderet (Baltimore, Md.). Bugg won the 100 with a time of 11.14 and finished second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.56. Barrett won the 110 hurdles with a mark of 14.54, and Benaderet won the 400 with a time of 49.36 and finished third in the 200 with a time of 22.51. In addition, the 4x100 relay team finished first with a time of 42.59.
The Terps will be in action again next Saturday at the Terrapin Invitational, the second of consecutive meets at the Kehoe Track Facility in College Park.
