Recap

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Postgame quotes from James Madison coach Jennifer Ulehla, Maryland coach Cindy Timchal and Terp senior attack Jen Adams following Maryland's victory in the NCAA quarterfinals Sunday:

JMU Coach Jennifer Ulehla:

Opening comments: "What a great competition. I'm so incredibly proud of my team to come out here and play with the strength and composure that they showed. Even when Maryland got up on us, the fight that we had to come back, and actually go ahead....the only thing I'm sorry about is that we lost. I love seeing Maryland flustered, I love seeing them mad, I love seeing them angry. I love seeing Jen Adams frustrated. All those things are great because you know you're doing something right. Again, Maryland is a great team and they pulled it out at the end, and great teams do that."

On JMU's defense: "We knew where they attacked from, and we focused on those areas. [Jen] Adams likes the right side, [Allison] Comito likes the left, and [Quinn] Carney is usually up top. We really worked on our team defense. The whole focus was on us to be strong and physical and to stand our ground."

On go-ahead goal: "It's unfortunate they went ahead. It's like, 'Does Maryland have an angel over top of them?' How can you fight so hard and still lose. Clearly it was a very even game. It's unfortunate a team has to win off a fluke [goal]. We also had a fluke goal. Especially for my seniors, it's tough to lose off of a fluke goal when you've worked so hard."

On turnaround: "The team turned around [after being down 5-1] and started playing the way we needed to play. We were very confident at halftime and discussed what they possibly might throw at us. We were able to get the ball high and to our quickest players that can attack and pull out.

On late breakdown: "I think where the breakdown was when we started to maintain possession with about three minutes left, we started to watch the ball a little bit more as opposed to working off the ball. I screamed at my players that I needed them to work off the ball harder than they've ever done it. We needed to move the ball around and spread out. But that's where I feel the breakdown was. It's unfortunate it just slipped away."

Maryland Coach Cindy Timchal:

Opening comments: "As you can tell this quarterfinal game to get to the Final Four has a lot of drama. We're excited to get back to the Final Four. I'm proud of the team members. We played a very, very tough, well-coached James Madison team. They really stepped it up and made us a better team. My hat is off to them."

On the play of her goalies: "We have two goalies that have carried us through the season. When needed, we've asked Virginia [Solomon] to come in and step up, and I thought she did a great job. It's part of the whole team effort."

Senior attack Jen Adams:

On game-tying goal late in contest: "The defense did a great job to get a turnover, and I just wanted to get a good shot on goal. The play was set up and our players did everything to move our players out of the 8-meter area, and it left it fairly open to me. I just hoped I could take the goalie out and put it in the back of the net."

On JMU doing anything unexpected: "I thought James Madison brought their best game to the field. They are a great team. They didn't have a lot of holes. I think our shot selection was a little off, but it all comes down to the team that if you have a lot of heart and character, those teams are going to pull out close games."
