CAMBRIDGE, MA -- The Maryland women's lacrosse team completed its
regular season with an unblemished record as the Terps posted a 14-4
victory over the homestanding Harvard Crimson this afternoon on Jordan
Field in Cambridge, MA. Maryland improves to 18-0, while the Crimson
concludes its season with a 6-9 overall record.
The Crimson took at 2-0 lead on goals by Heather Gotha (Acadia,
CA) and Alli Harper (Baltimore, MD), and kept it close in the early
going. After Harper scored her second of the day to knot the score at
three, the Terps scored three goals before the close of the first half
and opened the second frame with a pair to stake a 9-3 advantage.
Jennifer Lee (Wachtung, NJ) cut into the lead with a goal at the 8:15
mark, but Maryland went on to score the final five goals of the
afternoon for the final 14-4 score.
Allison Comito (Glen Head, NY) led all scorers with four goals
and an assist on the afternoon, while Courtney Hobbs (West Lakes, South
Australia) scored a goal and added four assists. Quinn Carney
(Flemington, NJ) contributed three goals and a pair of assists, and
Meredith Egan rounded out the multiple-goal scorers on the afternoon
with two goals and two assists.
Alexis Venechanos (Yorktown, NY) started the game for the Terps,
making three saves in the first 41 minutes before giving way to backup
Virginia Solomon (McLean, VA), who stopped seven shots in her 19 minutes
of work. Nora Guyer (Ardmore, PA) made seven saves for Harvard.
