Raleigh, N.C. -
University of Maryland Men's tennis team drops to 9-9 on the season after coming out on the losing end of an ACC matchup. The Terps, who were facing their fifth straight ACC opponent, fell to the NC State Wolfpack, 5-2, at the Carey Tennis Center. Putting the Terps on the board were Chris Chiu and David Reichsfeld, who prevailed against the Pack by securing singles wins.
The Terps continued to struggle in their doubles matches. NC State secured the doubles point by finding wins over Maryland's Scott Peters (Hopkington, Ma.) and David Reichsfeld (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) in the No. 2 doubles spot, as well as edging Pierre Rudder (Port of Spain, Trinidad) and Greg Chambers (Silver Spring, Md.) in the matchup of the No. 3 doubles. Chris Chiu (Columbia, Md.) and Troy Demers (Annapolis, Md.) who have only played together one time this season, came out on the winning end, defeating Jon Davis and Will Shaw, 9-7.
Chiu faced off against Will Shaw again, this time in singles play. He pulled out a close two-set victory over Shaw, winning 7-6, 6-4, as the No. 3 seed. David Reichsfeld brought in the final point of the day with his victory over Rehman Esmail, 7-5, 7-6. Reichsfeld's record is now 13-5 on the season.
The Terps can say goodbye to the road, as they return home for their final three matches of the regular season, all at the Tennis Center in College Park. The Terps' next match is Wednesday, April 9, at 2:30 against Mount St. Mary's.
