PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - No. 2 Penn (16-1) used five unanswered goals to begin the second half and held on for a 9-7 win against No. 5 Maryland (16-4) this afternoon in an NCAA quarterfinal match up at Franklin Field. Junior Allie Buote was credited with 10 saves and classmate Lauren Cohen had two goals and an assist while Casey Magor chipped in with a pair of goals.

Buote and the Maryland defense ignited the Terrapin offense to a quick 4-0 lead to open the game. The Quakers won the first draw of the game but senior Becky Clipp forced a turnover that led to a Maryland fast break. On the break, senior Katie Doolittle spotted an open Lauren Cohen who snuck a shot into the top left corner.

The Terps added their second goal of the game after a Penn yellow card in the midfield. On the reset, freshman Caitlyn McFadden ended up with the ball on the left side of the field. McFadden found a wide open Dobbie, who started the play, on the right side and bounced a shot past the goalie for the 2-0 lead.

At the 20:29 mark, Clipp cleared the ball into the Maryland offensive third and decided to take it all the way for the score, her first of the season. Junior Casey Magor followed up with a free position goal to give the Terps the four goal lead with 18:52 to go in the half.

Buote made save after save from point-blank range in the cage as she racked up five saves in the first nine minutes to keep the Quakers off the board.

The Quakers put an end to Maryland's streak and put together three unanswered goals of their own to climb right back into the game. Allison Ambrozy notched the first Penn goal at the 16:54 mark on an unassisted tally and then Rachel Manson scored off of a dish from Becca Edwards nearly 10 minutes later to cut the lead in half.

Meliisa Lehman scored another unassisted goal for Penn with 4:43 on the clock to get the Quakers within a goal. Magor then put the lead back to two for the Terps as she put away a pass from Cohen to make it 5-3 at the 3:31 mark, a lead Maryland would take into halftime.

The Quakers defense buckled down in the second half and Penn used a five-goal opening run to take an 8-5 lead with 14:17 to go in the game. The Quakers used five different goal scorers during that span with Chrissy Muller scoring a goal and adding an assist.

Cohen put an end to the Maryland drought when she fired a shot past the goalie to the left side for the Terps' first score since the 3:31 point in the opening half.

Ali DeLuca pushed the Penn lead back to three goals when she scooped up a ground ball after Kelly Kasper forced it out of her stick. DeLuca got the loose ball and drove right to the cage from the right side for the score with 9:43 to go.

Kasper got the Terps within two with just over four minutes on the clock after she was fouled at the top of the fan. Kasper drove straight to the goal on the reset, and slipped a shot over the goalie for the score. Penn was able to hold the ball in their offensive third the rest of the way to seal the 9-7 win.

Penn (16-1) will play the winner of Syracuse and Northwestern next Friday at Franklin Field. The Quakers were led by Edwards who had two goals and an assist and Ambrozy and Muller who both had two goals.
