#12 Terps Fall at #20 Miami, 83-75

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The No. 12 Maryland women's basketball team fell at No. 20 Miami 83-75, despite a second half surge that included five Terrapins breaking double-figures. Junior Lynetta Kizer led with 15 points and 11 boards, while sophomore Tianna Hawkins notched 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Junior Kim Rodgers added 11 points, while junior Anjale Barrett and freshman Alyssa Thomas each notched 10.

The Terps (20-4, 6-3 ACC) trailed by 14 at the break, but began the second half on an 8-0 run to cut the Canes' lead to six. Hawkins scored all of her points and grabbed all but three of her rebounds in the second half.

Maryland would cut the Hurricanes' (21-3, 7-2 ACC) lead to two three times in the final three minutes.

The Hurricanes, the nation's leader in steals, forced 20 Terrapin turnovers in the first half. Maryland had just three in the second period. Miami notched 22 points off turnovers, while the Terps had 13.

Maryland won the battle inside, outrebounding the Canes 41-29. The Terps also outscored the Hurricanes in the paint 42-30 and had 24 bench points to Miami's eight.

Barrett, the ACC assist leader in conference games, led the Terrapins with eight assists - all in the second half.

Miami's Shenise Johnson, led with 30 points, while Morgan Stroman added 20.

The Terps will return home to face Virginia Sunday at 2 p.m. in Comcast Center. Maryland will be celebrating its annual Think Pink game in honor of breast cancer research. Maryland will also recognize its legendary 1978 team at halftime Sunday. The Terrapins of 1978 went to the program's first ever Final Four and won Maryland's first ACC Championship.
