COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
As a proud Terp, I wouldn't think of being anywhere other than College Park this weekend and I hope that you will be here too. Our student-athletes are doing some incredible things as we finish the winter sports championships, while moving full speed ahead with the spring competitive seasons.
Just as our teams are performing at the top of our game, so is the staff that supports them. Collectively, from marketing to facilities and operations, from the ticket office to our media relations and communications staff, this is an exciting time of the athletics calendar at Maryland. We are also working hard on internal items like updating our five-year strategic plan that will keep us on track for the future.
Like me, our entire staff is geared up for this great week. Just this weekend on campus we have:
Women's basketball hosting the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament. On Saturday, the Terrapins face Navy at 11:15 a.m. and Louisville playing Michigan State at 1:30. The winners play Monday at 7 p.m.
The baseball team hosts a three-game series against fourth-ranked North Carolina, with games Friday at 6:00, Saturday at 3:00 and Sunday at 1:00.
The men's tennis team hosts Boston College on Friday at 2:30 and Oklahoma on Sunday at noon.
The women's lacrosse team hosts Boston College on Saturday at noon, with the men's lacrosse team facing off against Villanova at 1 p.m.
You can get tickets for each of these events by calling 1-800-IM-A-TERP or clicking on the ticket page here on the website. And that's just what's happening here...
We're now at the time of the season when some of our winter-sports teams are at the culmination of their schedules with NCAA national competition.
Maryland has seven wrestlers in St. Louis this Thursday through Saturday for the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. The seven wrestlers are the most the Terrapins have sent to nationals since 1990 when Maryland hosted the tournament.
We have four women's swimmers who will represent the university at the NCAA Division I Championships at Auburn, also Thursday through Saturday.
It's not just the warm weather that makes this a great time to be a Terp. Stay in touch with www.umterps.com throughout the weekend and we'll keep you posted on how our coaches and student-athletes are doing during one of the most exciting weekends of the whole year.
Stay in touch and Go Terps!!!
